Derek R. Taunt (16 November 191715 July 2004) was a British mathematician who worked as a codebreaker during World War II at Bletchley Park.

After the outbreak of war, Taunt was allocated to work on ballistics at Chislehurst. He moved to Bletchley Park in August 1941. At Bletchley, Taunt was assigned to Hut 6, tasked with decrypting the Enigma signals from the German Army and Air Force.

Taunt was educated at Enfield Grammar, then the City of London School. At Jesus College, Cambridge, he read mathematics from 1936 to 1939. After his wartime work, he returned to Cambridge, and worked on group theory. He later became the bursar of Jesus College.
