Darien is a city located in DuPage County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 22,860.
A suburb of Chicago, Illinois, Darien was named after a town in Connecticut.

Geography
Darien is located at 41°44'44" North, 87°58'52" West (41.745623, -87.981087)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.9 km² (6.1 mi²). 15.6 km² (6.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.14% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 22,860 people, 8,735 households, and 6,455 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,461.3/km² (3,782.7/mi²). There were 8,929 housing units at an average density of 570.8/km² (1,477.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 84.10% White, 1.97% African American, 0.11% Native American, 11.53% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. 3.64% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 8,735 households out of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% were non-families. 22.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $89,836, and the median income for a family was $103,412. Males had a median income of $70,580 versus $46,352 for females. The per capita income for the city was $39,795. 2.2% of the population and 1.6% of families were below the poverty line. 2.1% of those under the age of 18 and 5.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

The town motto is "A nice place to live" which coincidentally happened to be the same town motto as Hill Valley from the Back to the Future movies.
