Allendale is an unincorporated community in Ottawa County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is also a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 11,555. The community is located within Allendale Charter Township and the CDP area consists of about the northern two thirds of the township, from the eastern boundary with the Grand River west along Pierce St., north along 75th Ave., then west along Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) to the western boundary of the township. Apart from the CDP definition, the community is centered at the intersection of M-45 and 68th Ave., which are the only roads which cross the Grand River in the county east of Grand Haven. It is named after Hannibel Allen, a descendent of Ethan Allen, according to the sign adjacent to a portrait painting located in Grand Valley State University's Cook-DeWitt Center.

Image:MIMap-doton-Allendale.PNG According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 61.5 km² (23.7 mi²). 59.1 km² (22.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.79% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 11,555 people, 2,864 households, and 1,913 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 195.4/km² (506.1/mi²). There were 3,016 housing units at an average density of 51.0/km² (132.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.22% White, 2.97% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 3.03% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,864 households out of which 38.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.98 and the average family size was 3.36.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 43.1% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 9.6% from 45 to 64, and 4.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 21 years. For every 100 females there were 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.6 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $46,671, and the median income for a family was $58,371. Males had a median income of $39,038 versus $25,146 for females. The per capita income for the community was $14,580. 12.5% of the population and 2.4% of families were below the poverty line. 2.5% of those under the age of 18 and 3.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
