Pelican Rapids is a city located in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,374.

Image:MNMap-doton-Pelican Rapids.png According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.8 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.87% water.
Overview
Pelican Rapids is home to the world's largest pelican, a concrete and fiberglass creature located in a downtown park. Pelican Rapids is located in the heart of Minnesota lake country. Maplewood State Park is nearby.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 2,374 people, 884 households, and 558 families residing in the city. The population density was 349.8/km² (905.8/mi²). There were 962 housing units at an average density of 141.8/km² (367.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 78.43% White, 0.72% African American, 0.93% Native American, 3.58% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 12.76% from other races, and 3.54% from two or more races. 19.59% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 884 households out of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.3% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% were non-families. 33.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.31.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 17.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,232, and the median income for a family was $36,970. Males had a median income of $23,750 versus $20,645 for females.
