Fairburn Ings is a village in the county of West Yorkshire, England, near Castleford. The word "ing" is of Old Norse origin and means "damp or marshy land", a reference to the village being flooded regularly by the River Aire.
The flooding has produced huge expanses of water which have provided perfect conditions for RSPB Fairburn Ings, a nature reserve managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), established in 1968.
