Drunkard's Walk is a 1960 science fiction novel by Frederik Pohl.
A Drunkard's walk is also a type of a random walk in which termination conditions lead to a biased ending state.
The phrase is based upon the mental model of attempting to navigate a footpath with a wall on one side and a ditch on the other while intoxicated. Stumbling into the wall has no consequence, and the walk will continue, while stumbling into the ditch ends the walk.
