Montello, Wisconsin

Montello is a city located in Marquette County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,397. The city is located within the Town of Montello. Montello is also home to the biggest tree in all of Wisconsin.

Montello is located at 43°47'31" North, 89°19'47" West (43.791976, -89.329771)Template:GR.
Image:WIMap-doton-Montello.pngAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.63% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 1,397 people, 591 households, and 348 families residing in the city. The population density was 282.4/km² (732.6/mi²). There were 677 housing units at an average density of 136.9/km² (355.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.13% White, 0.29% Black or African American, 1.00% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 1.15% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 2.36% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 591 households out of which 27.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.1% were non-families. 37.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,500, and the median income for a family was $43,625. Males had a median income of $29,438 versus $21,375 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,676. 9.2% of the population and 5.4% of families were below the poverty line. 8.6% of those under the age of 18 and 10.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
