Liriope has two distinct meanings:
- Liriope was the mother of Narcissus according to Ovid's Metamorphoses.
- Liriope (lilyturf) is a genus of plants in the lily family
Just as the Narcissus (daffodil) was named for Narcissus, the liriope was named for Liriope.
