Template:Gay rights The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is an organization that promotes and ensures inclusive representation of self-identifying gay and lesbian people and events in the media as a means of de-stigmatizing homosexuality, thus eliminating discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. It was founded in 1985 in New York City.
The organization annually hosts the GLAAD Media Awards to honor members of the media who have made a significant contribution in promoting inclusive representation of LGBT people.
