The term lineage can refer to several things. In many cases, it is synonymous with ancestry.

• kinship and descent, a concept of cultural anthropology
• lineage (evolution), a group composed of species, taxa, or individuals related by descent from a common ancestor (see also: clade)
• Lineage, a line of transmission of Buddhist teachers, particularly in Zen
• Lineage and Lineage II, massively multiplayer online role-playing games developed by NCsoft.
