Lachine

Lachine is a specific referring to a number of places in the Montreal area:

• Lachine, Quebec - the community;
• Lachine (borough) - the borough;
• the Lachine Rapids;
• the Lachine Canal;
• the Lachine Canal National Historic Site;
• The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site;
• the Lachine train station on the Dorion-Rigaud Line of the Agence métropolitaine de transport commuter train network;
• the federal electoral district of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Lachine.

The name comes from the French la Chine, "China," a derisive reference to Robert Cavelier de La Salle's belief that beyond the Lachine Rapids was a sea route to the Orient.
