Saif al-Adel

Saif Al-Adel (or Seif Al Adel, or Seif al-Adl) (Arabic: سيف العدل) (born April 11, 1960 or 1963) is believed to be a senior member of the Al-Qaeda and Egyptian Islamic Jihad.

He is also known as Ibrahim Al-Madani and he knows Arabic.

Al-Adel, an Egyptian national whose real name is Muhammad Ibrahim Makkawi (or Muhamad Ibrahim Makkawi), is currently believed to the operations commander of Al-Qaeda. He was a colonel in Egyptian Special Forces before joining with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan to fight the Soviet invasion.

He is currently wanted in connection for several attacks including training the fighters responsible for the 1993 ambushing of United States Rangers in Somalia, the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings, and the training of several of the September 11, 2001 attackers.

Saif al-Adel is one of the many ranking al-Qaeda leaders alleged to have fled Afghanistan in 2001 for Iran. Others include Kuwaiti-born al-Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman Abu Ghaith and Saad bin Laden, the son of al-Qaeda head Osama bin Laden. Saif al-Adel and other alleged Iran-based al-Qaeda operatives are said to be under the protection of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and to have planned out attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia from his Iranian safehaven.
