The HMS Duke of Edinburgh, a cruiser of the Royal Navy,and one of two Duke of Edinburgh class cruisers, the other being HMS Black Prince. She was named after Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who was also Duke of Edinburgh.
History
The Duke of Edinburgh was ordered under the 1903/1903 Naval programme. She was built in Pembroke dockyard, having been laid down on 11 February 1903, launched on 1904-06-14, and completed on 1906-01-20; In her trials she reached a speed of 22.84 knots (23,685 ihp). Template:Ref Template:Ref
The Duke of Edinburgh transferred to the 5th Squadron from 1908 to 1912 and rescued the survivors of the SS Delhi in December 1911. From 1912 to 1913 she joined the 3rd Cruiser Squadron, and from 1913 to 1914 she served with the 1st Cruiser Squadron of the Mediterranean Fleet.
She served at the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
She was sold for scrap and broken up in 1920.
