Distillate may refer to the process or product of distillation. Any product of distillation is a distillate, but the term may mean something more specific depending on the context.
In the petroleum and energy industries, it refers to the fuels produced from the distillation of petroleum. Gasoline, kerosene and naphtha are produced through distillation, but distillate usually refers to fuel oils produced through distillation, such as diesel and heating oil. This distinguishes them from the residual fuel oils, which are made from the residue left after distillation.
When referring to alcoholic beverages, distillate refers to beverages produced through distillation, such as liquors.
