Glassjaw is a four-piece post-hardcore band from Long Island, New York. The band was formed by lead singer Daryl Palumbo, (drummer and later guitarist) Justin Beck, former guitarist Todd Weinstock, former bassist Ariel Telford and former guitarist Kris Baldwin who had been friends from a young age.

The band was formed around 1994 while Beck was also playing with Jewish Straight-Edge band, The Sons of Abraham and Palumbo was in his own straight-edge band called XbustedX. The line-up has undergone many changes since the birth of the band. Second generation drummer Sammy Siegler was replaced by Larry Gorman (ex-Orange 9MM) and second generation bass player, Manuel Carrero was replaced by bassist Dave Allen. In late 2004 Todd Weinstock, Dave Allen, and Larry Gorman left the band due to a multitude of reasons. Glassjaw had been considering moving down to one guitarist for a while, and the band felt it was time to make some changes. Todd founded his own band, Men, Women and Children. Allen was replaced by ex-member Manuel Carrero of the band The Jiant, who rejoined the band after three years away from it. Durijah Lang, also a former Glassjaw drummer and current member of Classic Case, replaced Gorman behind the kit.

Glassjaw are under the wing of pioneering producer Ross Robinson and are members of Robinson's I Am Recording label. In October 2005 the band released a B-side EP of songs not used in the bands second album Worship and Tribute called El Mark. After a two year hiatus, the band played three shows in 2005, two at The Downtown in Farmingdale New York, with proceeds going to charity and also, a spot on The Used's tour at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Trivia

  • The MTV version of 'Cosmopolitan Bloodloss' was not the original cut of the video. A scene at the end where the entire band gets murdered by an irate Vincent Gallo was taken out from the final cut. The MTV version was also re-edited to show more of the band throughout the entire video. The Original version went 2/3rds of the video before seeing the band and had the murder scene. Note that the version appearing on the Enhanced CD portion of the 'Worship and Tribute' is not the original cut in that it lacks the murder scene.
  • Todd Weinstock appeared in Brand New's video for 'Sic Transit Gloria'.
  • Daryl makes a short appearance in Lost Prophets video 'Last Summer'.
  • Daryl suffers from a disease called Crohn's Disease, a crippling intestinal disorder, which is the source of many of the band's cancellations of tour dates.
  • The bands back-log of former players is actually far longer; Glassjaw has had between 20 and 30 former members - some for one-off shows, some for the early demos.
  • The "Teeter" shirt Daryl wears in the photoshoot for Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence is actually the name of a friend of his who was moving away at the time of the shoot. For a time, Teeter owned the shirt, but eventually sold it for an undisclosed sum of money on Ebay (no source). It was returned to it's rightful owner and creator, Daryl, in late 2005.
  • Justin Beck has perfomed in every position in the band apart from lead vocals.
  • Beck co-founded the popular band merchandise site Merchdirect.net.
  • Daryl can also play guitar, bass, and piano.
  • They are managed by Rodney Afshari of Inner Circle Management.
