Three Rs

• A widely-used acronym for the basic elements of a primary school curriculum, with the Three Rs representing reading, ’riting (writing), and ’rithmetic (arithmetic) (originally Reckoning.)
• In environmentalism, where the Rs stand for reduce, reuse, recycle. The theory proposes that the best way to save the environment is to reduce material and energy usage and hence waste, to reuse what can be reused as much as possible, and to recycle anything that is left over.

• In animal testing, where they stand for reduce, replace, refine

• The plan proposed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt to bring about the recovery of the United States from the effects of Great Depression. The 3Rs stood for Relief, Recovery, and Reform.
