Ernest Ka'ai (1881-1961) was an ukulele virtuoso responsible for making the ukulele an indispensable instrument in the typical Hawaiian ensemble. In 1916 he published "The Ukulele; A Hawai'ian Guitar", the first serious text on the ukulele, its techniques, and its music.
