Byrhtnoth (Byrhtnoþ, also spelled Byrhtnoð, Byrihtnoð, Brihtnoþ, Beorhtnoþ, Beorhtnoð, Baeorhtnoð) was an Anglo-Saxon name, composed of beorht "bright" and noth "courage". It was the name of the leader of the Anglo-Saxon defence force in the Battle of Maldon in 991.
