Buildings
- The Home Insurance Building in Chicago designed by William LeBaron Jenney (demolished 1931)
- The Kuhns Building in Dayton, Ohio. This building is on the National Registry of Historic Places for its architecture. Still standing today, located at the corner of Fourth and Main Streets. Owned by Robert J. Shiffler. Interior is no longer historic.
- May 24 - Brooklyn Bridge, designed by John Augustus Roebling, is completed
