  • June 28 - Gehry Tower in Hanover, Germany, designed by Frank Gehry opened.
  • September 11 - World Trade Center in New York is destroyed and The Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia is heavily damaged by hijacked airliners. (See September 11, 2001 attacks)
