- It was suggested in the Javanese Book of Kings by Raden Ranggawarsita that the volcano Krakatoa underwent a massive explosion in this year, but there is no evidence otherwise (in dust found in ice, or the width of the tree rings which would be affected by the change in climate caused) that it occurred. It has been suggested that the book made a mistake, and that the eruption described actually took place in 535.
- The Visigoths continue their invasion of Spain.
- Wallia, king of the Visigoths, returns Athaulf's widow Galla Placidia to Rome in return for supplies.
- Rutilius Claudius Namatianus begins his journey from Rome home to Gaul. This becomes the subject of his unfinished poem, De reditu suo.
