Academy Sergeant Major

The Academy Sergeant Major is the senior non-commissioned officer instructor at a military academy which has traditions derived from the British military.

At the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the AcSM holds the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 and his appointment is the second most senior NCO appointment in the whole British Army (after the Conductors, Royal Logistic Corps). He is always a guardsman.

At the Australian Defence Force Academy, the ASM also holds the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 or equivalent and is drawn on rotation from all three services.
