Ada, Ohio

Ada is a village located in Hardin County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 5,582.

Ada is notable for being the home of Ohio Northern University and Wilson Sporting Goods' NFL football manufacturing facility.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.8 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.8 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 5,582 people, 1,783 households, and 850 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,152.5/km² (2,982.7/mi²). There were 1,948 housing units at an average density of 402.2/km² (1,040.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.50% White, 1.58% African American, 0.13% Native American, 1.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,783 households out of which 22.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 52.3% were non-families. 36.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the village the population was spread out with 13.9% under the age of 18, 48.6% from 18 to 24, 18.0% from 25 to 44, 12.5% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 22 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $24,665, and the median income for a family was $39,300. Males had a median income of $32,143 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the village was $12,561. 21.9% of the population and 11.7% of families were below the poverty line. 10.9% of those under the age of 18 and 19.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
