Ajit Agarkar

Template:Infobox Cricketer Ajit Bhalchandra Agarkar (born 4 December, 1977 in Bombay - now Mumbai) is an Indian cricketer. When he arrived in the Indian team, he was viewed by some as a replacement for Kapil Dev. Early in his career, Agarkar set a world record for the fastest 50 wickets in One-day International matches (ODIs). He has scored a Test century at Lord's.
Since then, he has lost consistency with bat and ball, especially in Test matches, so it could be said that he has failed to live up to expectations.
He made his debut on April 1st 1998 on a very hot day in Kochi ( the first International one-day game played at the Nehru Stadium there). The match was a high scoring one, with nearly 600 runs being scored. Though Agarkar was smacked for a few runs, he ended up with the crucial wicket of Adam Gilchrist, and on the whole had looked impressive.
A resident of Narayan Pujari Nagar on Worli Seaface, he was raised by his grandparents at Shivaji Park where many a great cricketer practised and went on to play for India.
He represented Middlesex County Cricket Club in three first-class matches in 2004.
