Amata (moth) is also a genus of moths of the family Arctiidae (sub-family Ctenuchinae)

In Roman mythology, Amata was the wife of King Latinus of the Latins. Although Latinus and she had no sons, together they had one daughter. When her daughter, Lavinia, was given to Aeneas for marriage in spite of her fiance, Turnus, Amata supported Turnus. When it became clear that Aeneas would win her daughter, Amata committed suicide.

Virgil VII, 343; XII, 56, 593.

In Buddhism, Amata means 'deathless', the condition of a fully enlightened being.
