American Jewish Committee
From Free net encyclopedia
The stated Mission of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) is to "safeguard the welfare and security of Jews in the United States, in Israel, and throughout the world; to strengthen the basic principles of pluralism around the world, as the best defense against anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry; and to enhance the quality of American Jewish life by helping to ensure Jewish continuity and deepen ties between American and Israeli Jews." [1] The organization has a national office in New York City and 33 local chapters spread across the United States. [2] Its activities include filing a brief against allowing public displays of the menorah during Hanukah in County of Allegheny v. ACLU.
Its acronym, AJC, is not to be confused with the American Jewish Congress.
The AJC publishes Commentary Magazine.
