Americans for a Society Free from Age Restrictions

From Free net encyclopedia

Americans for a Society Free from Age Restrictions (ASFAR) is an organization that bills itself as "dedicated to protecting and advancing the legal civil rights of youth". ASFAR is an organization within the youth rights movement, which moves to increase rights and privileges for youths in a manner equal to the majority. It protests the voting age, curfew laws, and other laws that they believe limit the freedom of young people.

ASFAR, or Americans for a Society Free from Age Restrictions, is an organization that was founded in 1997 by two individuals that felt that the role of age in society -- socially or legally -- should be removed. They seek the relaxation of age restrictions in the interim; their ultimate goal is to completely abolish age restrictions, as can be seen by their Declaration of Principles. Some members from ASFAR split off several years ago to form their own organization, the National Youth Rights Association.

Accomplishments

ASFAR held nationwide voting age protests on in a variety of locations on two dates in 2004.
