Anton Long
From Free net encyclopedia
Anton Long is the present Grand Master (the leader) of the Order of Nine Angles, a Satanist organization originally based in England, which now has associates and groups in America, Canada, Russia, Europe, and Australasia.
According to the internal history of the ONA, Long was initiated in the early 1960s into an occult "Tradition" dating back millennia. A massive corpus was then written by Long (although some manuscripts were attributed to the Grand Mistress who initiated him) outlining their "sinister path". (Kaplan (ed.) 2000, p. 236)
Although the ONA claims a long history, it first came to public prominence in the early 1980s when Long published many of its texts, rituals and books. This led to the Temple of Set proscribing the ONA. [1] [2].
It has been continually alleged that Anton Long is a pseudonym of David Myatt's. Gerry Gable, of anti-fascist British watchdog publication Searchlight, has claimed this; as has Elizabeth Selwyn in, the official Church of Satan publication, The Black Flame. Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, in his book Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism and the Politics of Identity, accepts this assertion, presenting biographical details of Myatt from Long's autobiography. Jeffrey Kaplan, in his essay "Religiosity and the Radical Right: Toward the Creation of a New Ethnic Identity" - included in the book Nation and Race - is not of this opinion, stating that Myatt "while close to the ONA, is a distinctly different individual" (Kaplan & Bjørgo (eds.) 1998, p. 115).
