Aspidites is a particular genus within the taxonomical familia of Pythonidae. There are two species within the genus; the Black Headed Python (A. melanocephalus) and the Woma Python (A. ramsayi).
Aspidites can be translated as "shield bearer" and pertains to the two symmetrical shaped head scales on the top of the heads of this genus of pythons. These snakes also lack the heat seeking pits on their labial or lip scales that are found on most other species of pythons. The head is narrow and the eyes have round pupils.
Snakes of the genus Aspidites are oviparous and are reproduced from eggs laid by the female. The female stays with the eggs till they are hatched.
