Automatism

The word automatism is used is several contexts:
- In medicine, automatism or automatic behavior, refers to spontaneous, involuntary speech or action, without conscious self-control or self-censorship.
- Mediumistic automatism, in which speech, writing or behaviour produced is purported to be communicated from ghosts, spirits or the like, channeling through a psychic or medium.
- Surrealist automatism is an artistic technique of spontaneous writing, drawing, or the like practiced without conscious aesthetic or moral self-censorship.
