BONES is a Japanese animation studio presided by former Sunrise member Minami Masahiko. Also working there are members of the staff responsible for Cowboy Bebop and Vision of Escaflowne, two famous Sunrise productions. Not long after their foundation, BONES co-produced the movie installments of the aforementioned series. Since then they have produced many renowned anime titles themselves including RahXephon, Wolf's Rain, Scrapped Princess and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Not only has the studio produced several anime adaptations of famous manga series (which in turn became successful themselves), but also created sucessful original anime series which were later adapted to manga. Overall, BONES is known for its very detailed and precise style of drawing, particular interest in military affairs, and frequent inclusion of elements of Western and, particularly, European culture into their works. A good example of this is the use of foreign written languages (e.g. English in Fullmetal Alchemist and Scrapped Princess, and Russian in Wolf's Rain) instead of keeping with the traditional preference for Japanese kanji, as well as some concepts that are uncommon in anime, such as surfing (Eureka Seven) and opera (RahXephon).
