Bachelor of Technology
From Free net encyclopedia
A Bachelor of Technology is a university-level academic degree conferred in The Commonwealth countries, Norway, the United States, and other countries. A bachelor's degree is a undergraduate qualification conferred by an accredited university or an accredited university-degree granting institution. It is awarded for completion of programs which are typically four-years in duration.
It is awarded to those who have undertaken a Bachelor of Science degree with additional industrial placements. Due to the placements, the degree normally takes at least four years.
The degree is now less commonly awarded in the United Kingdom. Those who take such degrees now are normally just awarded a Bachelor of Science (BSc).
The common abbreviation for Bachelor of Technology is BTech or BTech(Hons) if it is awarded with honours. Care should be taken not to confuse it with the UK Business & Technical Education Council (BTEC) designation, which is not a university degree. BTEC functions have now been overtaken by Edexcel.
In Australia, the Bachelor of Technology programs are three-years in duration and honours programs require a fourth year for the BTech(Hons) designation.
In India, the Bachelor of Technology is considered as the highest level degree for undergraduate engineering programs. Graduates of the BTech engineering programs are preferred in industrial placements over graduates of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programs.
