Baldwin is a village in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,107. It is the county seat of Lake County6.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,107 people, 397 households, and 183 families residing in the village. The population density was 336.5/km² (873.2/mi²). There were 479 housing units at an average density of 145.6/km² (377.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 59.62% White, 34.33% African American, 1.36% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.45% from other races, and 4.25% from two or more races. 2.71% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 397 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 27.0% were married couples living together, 17.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.9% were non-families. 49.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 27.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 3.19.
In the village the population was spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 12.8% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 113.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $15,550, and the median income for a family was $22,857. Males had a median income of $26,042 versus $21,364 for females. The per capita income for the village was $9,619. 35.9% of the population and 32.0% of families were below the poverty line. 44.7% of those under the age of 18 and 21.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
