Barry Devolin

Barry Devolin (born March 10, 1963) is a Canadian politician who is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada. He was elected in the 2004 election to represent the riding of Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock. He received 44% of the popular vote and won by more than 5,000 votes. In the 2006 election Mr. Devolin was re-elected with 49% of the vote and won by 12,000 votes.
After being elected to parliament Mr. Devolin created a non-partisan Farm Council in his riding to advise and inform him on agricultural issues. He also launched the Capital Experience which is a program that takes 1 or 2 students from each of the area’s 7 high schools to Ottawa for 3 days to learn about career opportunities in public life.
Barry Devolin was born in Peterborough and grew up in Haliburton. While he was in high school Barry was selected as an International Exchange Student by the Haliburton Rotary Club and spent a year in the Netherlands. After his year abroad, Barry wanted to become a diplomat and decided to move to Ottawa to study Political Science at Carleton University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1985. Two years later Barry got his Master's Degree in Political Science from State University Of New York at Stony Brook.
In 1993 Barry married Ursula Beachli who was born and grew up in Haliburton. They have 2 young children: a boy (born 2002) and a girl (born 2004).
