Beats, Rhymes and Life is the fourth album of alternative hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest. Released in 1996, it followed three years after the highly regarded and successful Midnight Marauders. Unfortunately for the group, the critical response for this album was not as positive, with many seeing the album as bland and lacking in the energy that characterised previous releases from the trio. The album was also the first to feature production work from "The Ummah", which was composed of Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jay Dee.
