Billy Bathgate is a character created by author E.L. Doctorow, and has been featured in three pieces of modern art:
Songs of Billy Bathgate, a 1968 short story featuring the son of the character from Doctorow's later novel.
Billy Bathgate, a 1989 novel that won the PEN/Faulkner award.
Billy Bathgate, a 1991 movie starring Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Loren Dean, Steven Hill, Steve Buscemi, and Bruce Willis. Doctorow has essentially disowned the film for shifting the point of view from first person to third, dropping key character development from most of the main characters, omitting all of Billy's monologues from the book, and drastically altering the ending.
