Bitterroot Range

From Free net encyclopedia

The Bitterroot Range is a range of mountains along the Montana and Idaho border in the northwestern United States. It is a subrange of the Rocky Mountains.

Trapper Peak is one of the highest peaks in the range.

The range is named after the bitterroot, a small pink flower that is the state flower of Montana.

It neighbors the Bitterroot Valley and Bitterroot River. It gave its name to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area and Bitterroot National Forest.

In 1803, the Corps of Discovery, led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, crossed the Bitterroot Range. They were led by a Shoshone Indian man by the name of Old Toby.[1]Template:Montana-geo-stub Template:Idaho-geo-stub
