Bob Shamansky
From Free net encyclopedia
Robert Norton Shamansky was a one-term Democratic party member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio.
Shamansky ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in 1966 but lost to Republican incumbent Samuel L. Devine.
Fourteen years later, in 1980, Shamansky challenged Devine again. This time, Shamansky was successful in unseating the long-time incumbent Devine, becoming the first Democrat to win the District since 1937, and the only Democrat to beat an incumbent Republican Congressman that year. As a member of the 97th Congress, Shamansky served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee (now the Committee on International Relations), and as a member of the Science and Technology Committee.
In 1982, after reapportionment, Shamansky was defeated in his bid for re-election by future Fox News talk-show host John Kasich. In February of 2006, at age 78, Shamansky announced his intention to again run for the 12th District. He is currently a candidate for the Democratic nomination to face Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Genoa Township).
A graduate of The Ohio State University (1947) and Harvard Law School (1950), Shamansky served as a Special Agent in the United States Army's Counter Intelligence Corps from 1950-1952.
