History
1937-1960
The evolution of Boeing Australia Limited dates back to 1937 when U.S. company, North American Aviation Inc., licensed an Australian group (Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation) to build the NA-33 training aircraft.
This NA-33 prototype led to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Wirraway aircraft of World War II fame. A short time later, manufacturing began on medium-range bombers for the RAAF. These were manufactured at the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) facilities.
In 1959, the Collins Radio Company (Australasia) Pty Ltd (CRCA) was established in Melbourne.
1961-1990
In 1973 Rockwell International acquired Collins Radio Company and the CRCA name was changed to Rockwell Collins (Australasia) Pty Ltd.
In October 1987, the Government Aircraft Factories were renamed Aerospace Technologies of Australia (ASTA).
1991-2002
Rockwell Systems Australia Ltd (RSA), formed in March 1991, bringing together two other Rockwell companies operating within Australia - Rockwell Ship Systems Australia (RSSA) in Sydney (North Ryde) and Rockwell Electronics Australia (REA) in Melbourne (Lillydale).
In June 1995, the Australian Government sold elements of ASTA for A$40 million to Rockwell, providing the company with capabilities in aircraft production, aircraft modification and component manufacture and service. Later in 1995, Rockwell Systems Australia changed its name to Rockwell Australia Limited.
On 6th December 1996 Boeing paid US$3 billion to acquire Rockwell's global aerospace and defence business, including most of its Australian operations, which it renamed Boeing Australia Limited.
On the 15th December 1996, The Boeing Company and The McDonnell Douglas Corporation merged in a stock-for-stock transition, creating the world's largest integrated aerospace company.
In 2003, The Boeing Company appointed Hon. Andrew Peacock AC, as President Boeing Australia, to co-ordinate the company's Australian investments and operations. These businesses include Boeing Australia Limited, Hawker de Havilland, Preston Aviation Solutions, Alteon Training Australia Pty. Ltd, and offices for Jeppesen and Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) Sales. With the exception of the BCA Sales office, these businesses were consolidated in 2003 into a wholly-owned company, Boeing Australia Holdings Pty. Ltd.
