History

Brainwashed was started in 1996 by Jon Whitney as a domain to host sites for bands he loved. The site grew in popularity for fans of those same bands, other "eclectic music lovers," and "hardcore music nerds." To keep the influx of new bands "fresh," by 1999, the site no longer hosted reviews of records released on major labels. 2003 marked the launch of "The Eye," downloadable video interviews with and clips of bands. Whitney began hosting weekly podcasts starting in December 2004.
