Braybrook, Victoria

From Free net encyclopedia

Braybrook is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the City of Maribyrnong. Approximately mid-way between the former councils of Footscray and Sunshine, located in the heart of the western suburbs (before the more recent urban sprawl), due west from the Melbourne CBD along Ballarat Road, unsurprisingly it has been an industrial surburb for the whole of its existence. Some gentrification has occurred in the past decade, with many former factory sites developed for modern housing projects (townhouses and the like), but traces of its industrial past are still evident.

It is home to one of the largest Blockbuster Video stores in the country. One of the few video stores to have PC games available for hire and large enough to have its own martial arts section.

Education

It is also home to Braybrook College, a local public school. This school's motto is "Pride in Achievement", which was only recently changed from "Environment for Excellence". Three Catholic secondary schools are also located here: Christ the King College; St John's College; and Chisholm College, all located on Churchill Avenue. On nearby South Road are located both the Dinjerra Primary School and the main campus of WELS (Western English Language Centre).

Transportation

There are four bus routes that go throught Braybrook. These are the 215, 216, 219, and the 220 which are operated by Melbourne Bus Link.
