Brian Nugent

From Free net encyclopedia

Brian Nugent is a campaigner for Scottish independence. Formerly a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP) (having been a parliamentary candidate at one stage), he left in late 2003 and announced he was forming the Scottish Party in early 2004. A decision was subsequently taken to rename it the Free Scotland Party.

He cited dissatisfaction with the SNP's line on the European Union (EU) as the reason for his resignation; his party calls for an independent Scotland, outwith the UK and the EU.

Nugent stood as a candidate for the Free Scotland Party in the 2005 general election in the Orkney and Shetland constituency, he polled 176 votes (1.0%), losing his £500 deposit.

Mr. Nugent has (tongue-in-cheek) promised state funding for his home town football team Albion Rovers F.C. should his party win power.Template:UK-politician-stub Template:Scotland-bio-stub
