In 2005, Greene announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 2006 election for United States Senator in Washington state. Greene and Mike McGavick, an insurance executive, are vying for the Republican nomination. Incumbent Senator Maria Cantwell is the favorite to win the Democratic nomination.
