CACI International, Inc. (Template:NYSE) is a United States-based private military contractor. Originally an acronym for California Analysis Center, Incorporated, the acronym was adopted as the firm's official name in 1985.
CACI is sometimes called "Colonels and Captains, Inc." or "Captains and Commanders, Inc." by critics who cite the revolving door from the military to the company. Among the members of its board of directors is Barbara A McNamara, former Deputy Director of the NSA. An employee of CACI was named in a detailed report of the Iraq Abu Ghraib prison scandal in 2004, but was later cleared as having no involvement.
CACI is organized into two major business groups: CACI Federal, which serves federal, state, and local governments in the United States, and CACI, Ltd., which offers consumer and market analysis and provides Information Systems services in the United Kingdom. CACI's major lines of business are:
- Engineering services
- Knowledge management
- Managed network services
- Systems integration
CACI was founded by businessman Herb Karr and future Nobel laureate Harry Markowitz in 1962 to commercialize the SIMSCRIPT simulation programming language.
CACI was ranked #921 in the 2006 Fortune 1000 list of the largest companies in America. CACI also ranked 8th among the top 10 information technology providers on the 2006 Fortune 500 list.
