CFM (short for Carlisle FM) is an Independent Local Radio station launched in 1993. It broadcasts across Northern & Central Cumbria and the Southern Tip of Scotland, with transmitters in Carlisle, Penrith and West Cumbria.

It is currently owned by media giant Emap Radio and was previously run until 2005 by Scottish Radio Holdings. In 1993 it was originally launched by Border Television, with whom it shares its residence at broadcast centre.

The station's slogan is The Best Mix of Music. and it plays the songs from the 60's up to the present day. It is part of the Big City Network.

CFM History

It launched at 8am on 14 April 1993 when Founder, Managing Director and breakfast show host John Myers played "The Best" by Tina Turner as its first song.

Origanally CFM only broadcast from their Caldbeck site to Carlisle on 96.4 and Penrith on 102.5 FM until September 1995 when they also started transmitting to West Cumbria from their transmitter at Broughton Moor on 102.2 (Workington) and 103.4 FM (Whitehaven).

CFM are currently commercial market leader in Cumbria and Southern Scotland (Radio Authority Joint Audience Research data "RAJAR" Jan 2006). See "Ofcom" website for full ratings list.

CFM broadcasts local and national News every hour with an extended 15 minute news bulletin from 13.00.

06.00-10.00 Robbie Dee in the Morning

Wake up with 'Fun on the Phones', competitions (See www.cfmradio.com for details) and 'The Daily Impossible Question' along with showbiz news and more.

10.00-13.00 Pete Moss at Lunchtime

Pete plays ten songs from one particular year from 10.00. On the 'Interactive Lunch', listeners can get their favourite songs played between 12.00 and 13.00. There's also 'Word on the Street', 'The Time Machine' and a local What's On guide.

13.00-16.00 Andy Wood in the Afternoon

Andy Wood plays 4 songs with 1 connection and listeners can see see if they can Connect 4. There's also a chance for listeners to see how clever their workforce is on 'Test the Workforce' (10 general knowledge questions, highest scorers at the end of the week win CDs). There's also 'Then and Now', 'Tonight's TV' and the latest Entertainment News.

16.00-19.00 Rob Williams at Drive Time

Get home with the latest travel news from 16.00. Listeners can update the station with travel updates on 01228 81 55 44. There are also chances to win plus the daily music news and the 'Cheap as Chips' last minute holiday guide.

19.00-22.00 Vicky Warham in the Evening

Vikki entertains the listeners for their evening from 19.00. Including anthems.

22.00-01.00 Simon Williams on Lates

What has upset Simon today, find out weeknights from 22.00 with his late debate. Listeners can also get problems off their chests by phoning, texting or by e-mail.

There's also the chill-out zone from midnight, Relaxing Faves.
