CSI: NY
From Free net encyclopedia
Template:Infobox television CSI: NY (working title CSI: New York) is an American police procedural television series which premiered on September 22, 2004. The series was the second spinoff from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and was introduced during an episode of CSI: Miami when Horatio Caine journeyed to New York City in pursuit of a murder suspect who fled Miami. It is much bloodier than the Miami version, and was filmed in a hard blue light until Season 2, when CBS President Les Moonves wanted to make the show appear "less cold".
Another crossover (between NY and Miami) was featured on November 7 (CSI: Miami) and November 9, 2005 (CSI: NY), which involved a crashed plane and an escaped serial killer, and included members of both casts. Template:In-progress tvshow Like the other two CSI programs, the theme song is by The Who; this time the song is "Baba O'Riley", also (erroneously) known as "Teenage Wasteland".
Interestingly, the show airs in the same time slot as NBC's Law & Order, a much older crime drama also set in New York City.
Except for Gary Sinise, Melina Kanakaredes, and Anna Belknap, all of the cast members are from New York. However, Sinise and Belknap have both lived in NY at some point.

Cast
Main characters
- Detective Mac Taylor, played by Gary Sinise, is the leader of the CSI team. His wife died in the 9/11 attacks, a constant cause for Mac's sleep troubles. He served in the USMC, once saying that he had wanted to serve the country more than anything else in the world. Mac has a close friendship with Det. Bonasera.
- Detective Stella Bonasera, played by Melina Kanakaredes, is absolutely devoted to her job. She is often referred to as the 'Statue of Liberty', due to her strong personality, determination and intelligence. She is a half-Greek, half-Italian orphan, who grew up moving throughout foster homes. She is close with Mac and constantly worries about his state of health and mind-frame.
- Detective Danny Messer, played by Carmine Giovinazzo, is considered the most complicated character of the show. He grew up in Staten Island in an "Italian Mafia" family under surveillance (As hinted at in Episode - 'Tanglewood'), he formed his own set of hybrid ethics, between the world of lawbreakers and lawmakers. Mac personally selected Danny for his team, an honor and a responsibility that he attempts to live up to each day. He is a very untrusting person, Det. Flack being the one person he confides in. Danny played minor league baseball until he got into a bar fight and broke his arm, when he then began his career as a CSI.
- Dr. Sheldon Hawkes, played by Hill Harper, formerly a Medical Examiner with the NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), was a child prodigy who graduated college at eighteen, and by 24 he was a fully board-licensed surgeon. However, after losing two patients he abandoned surgery in favour of the medical examiner's office. By the season 2, Hawkes has thus abandoned his autopsy room in lieu of working in the field.
- Detective Don Flack, played by Eddie Cahill, comes from a long line of law enforcement officials. He is the one that bridges the gap between old school NYPD and the new generation of CSI. He is the witty homicide detective who has very little patience with the "Bad Guy", and his technique is considered somewhat borderline, though nevertheless effective. He is good friends with Danny Messer, always willing to lend an ear to Danny's problems. (As in the Episode - 'On The Job')
- Lindsay Monroe, played by (Anna Belknap, season 2 - ), a forensic scientist from Montana, who transferred in after Aiden Burn was fired. She joined during episode "Zoo York". Not much is known about her, since she only recently joined. However, Danny enjoys giving her the biz, and will occasionally refer to her as "Montana," a name she wishes he wouldn't call her. Lindsay is known for Midwestern manners, such as taking off her shoes before entering a suspect's house. She works well with the team considering that she is relatively new to the crime lab.
Former Characters
- Detective Aiden Burn, played by (Vanessa Ferlito, season 1-2). Burn is a Brooklyn native who has the ability to adapt to new situations very quickly. Fired by Mac in season two, episode 2 "Grand Murder At Central Station" after becoming obsessed with a rape case and considering tampering with evidence. She did not actually plant the evidence, but broke the seal, throwing her credibility into question. Mac fires her because she is a risk to the credibility of the CSI Lab. She agrees with his decision to fire her because she doesn't know if she would resist the temptation next time.
Recurring characters
- Leonard Giles (J. Grant Albrecht), head of the tech lab, former runner now paralyzed from the waist down.
- Jane Parsons (Sonya Walger), head of the DNA Lab
- Chad Willingham (Chad Lindberg), a lab technician.
- Dr. Evan Zao (Ron Yuan, season 2 - ), who replaces Dr. Hawkes as Medical Examiner after he takes field work. Described as "a young, handsome, and easy going doctor".
- Zack Shannon (David Julian Hirsh, season 2 - ), a tech in the Trace Lab
- Unnamed Uniformed Cop (Greg D'Agostino, season 2 - )
- Dr. Sid Hammerbeck (Robert Joy), season 2 - ), a new Medical Examiner described as an "off-the-charts genius" who only recently traded in a career as chef to become medical examiner.
- Detective Kaile Maka (Kelly Hu), sometimes accompanies the CSIs on investigations.
