Call originator

The call originator is the person or machine placing a call to another subscriber on a telephone network.
In the traditional telephony, call originator pays for the entire cost of the call (unless the flat rate is in effect), while the recipient pays none.

A common etiquette for a call originator to identify himself first. In some countries it is even his responsibility to speak first, when the connection is established.

Modems and fax machines use different tones when originating or answering a connection, which may be a source of problem for the user.
