Template:Move to wiktionary The word caravan has a Persian root and in ancient times it was used for a group of people who were traveling by camel or horse on the silk road. Car means mission and van means people and guardian. A caravanserai (also Persian كاروانسرا), means home or shelter for caravans. Caravans are often formed by militaries as well. A caravansara was a roadside inn where caravans could rest and recover from the day's journey. Some nomadic peoples known for caravan living include the Roma people, the Irish travellers, the Bedouins, the Yeniche people, and the Quinqui.
