- Carnegie Foundation can also refer to The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
The Carnegie Foundation is an organization set up by, and named after, Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-American industrial magnate and philanthropist. It was Carnegie's generous gift of $1.5 million that made it possible to carry out plans for the construction of the Peace Palace in 1903, the year in which it was founded. The Foundation remains the legal owner of the Peace Palace since the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which is based there along with its library, could not own the building under Dutch law.
