Celebrity prank call
From Free net encyclopedia
A celebrity prank call is a type of prank call in which the prankster records sound clips from a particular celebrity, and plays them back to unsuspecting victims. The clips tend to be uploaded to computers and are arranged on or soundboards. The prankster calls his victim and plays back the particular clips, with the intent of fooling the victim into believing that he or she is talking to a real person. The trend originated with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Pranksters would take clips of him from the movie Kindergarten Cop and call different places, such as restaurants and hotels, under the guise of "Detective John Kimble", his character from the film. Commonly used lines from that film are, "I'm Detective John Kimble!", "I'm a cop you IDIOT!", and arguably the most popular one, "Who is your daddy and what does he do?" to which the annoyed victims respond with varying degrees of sincerity. The recordings spread across the Internet, as seen on sites such as www.ArnoldCalls.com, or Realm of Darkness.net and the now defunct www.ArnieIsOnThePhone.cjb.net (archived at www.waybackmachine.org). The trend led to other celebrities' voices being used in the same way, such as Jack Nicholson (from his film A Few Good Men) and Jack Black (from clips of various skits on the album Tenacious D).
